Pete Thompson Motor Dismantlers started trading in 1975 on a half acre plot of land at Haggs Wood, Stainforth. All that we had was a J4 Pickup Truck, a piece of rope, an old Alsatian guard dog and a green shed. Over the years we have moved a long way forward and have a new home. At our current site on Bootham Lane Industrial Estate, Dunscroft, we have a modern concreted salvage facility with oil interceptors and a depollution bay covering an area of approximately 5 acres.

Pete Thompson Motor Dismantlers operate a fully licensed Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) for End of Life Vehicles (ELV). This makes scrapping your car with us a much safer and efficient process.

When a vehicle arrives at us for scrapping, before it can be crushed it needs to be fully depolluted. This means that all liquids and fuels are drained from the vehicle safely and in an environmentally friendly manner. Our facility is regulated and audited by the Environment Agency to ensure that the correct procedures are in place to dispose of vehicles in the most environmentally friendly way. Also in this process the battery is removed from the vehicle along with the removal of air con gas and the deployment of air bags. All this is carried out in our depollution bay specifically set up to carry out these processes. Our depollution bay was officially open by one of Britain’s most famous sportsmen Sir Henry Cooper in 2004.

As an ATF we are able to complete a Certificate of Destruction (COD) for your vehicle which means the DVLA are instantly updated on the status of your vehicle and that we have taken full responsibility for its possession. This service is not available from an unlicensed vehicle collector who can often fail to notify the DVLA leaving you responsible for the vehicle.

All we require is a Log Book (V5) and Photographic Identification at the point of collection. Pete Thompson Motor Dismantlers are active members of the British Vehicle Salvage Federation, which is the representative body of the vehicle salvage industry in the UK. The BVSF is recognised by all relevant Government departments and agencies, the police, insurers and other industry representative bodies with whom it has close links.
We are also active members of the Motor Vehicle Dismantlers Association. The MVDA’s role is to promote the interests of its members and those of the motoring public whilst at the same time ensuring protection of the environment.
                                  

As members of NSG and NSA we are contracted to major insurance companies to collect, store and dispose of accident damaged vehicles. All of these cars are assessed by insurance company engineers and categorised according to their condition, this means that the cars we have for sale are all repairable category X, D and C vehicles and those vehicles that have been deemed un-repairable category A and B vehicles are appropriately depolluted and recycled.
We have an intelligent industry based computer system that provides instant information regarding vehicles within our premises for both salvage and dismantling.  Insurance salvage is safely stored, photographed and placed on our system database to ensure that any vehicle which is processed at Pete Thompsons has a flawless audit trail. The key features of the system include:

• Vehicle Details including vehicle type, year of registration, engine size, area of damage and category of vehicle.
• Location of the vehicle within the premises.
• Date and time the vehicle was collected.
• Images of the vehicle at the point of collection.
• Inherited costs and breakdown of these costs.
• The facility to enter notes for information.
• Details of Purchaser.
• Date of Sale.
• Date of notification to DVLA.
• Date of Certificate of Destruction (COD) sent to DVLA.
